I’ve had my Treo 680 for about three months now. I’ve been pretty happy with it so far. As I mentioned previously, I liked my Palm Z22 a lot. My previous cell phone was a Motorola V557.
As a PDA, the Treo is definitely better than the Z22. It’s faster, and it has a bigger screen, much better sound, more memory, and a thumb keyboard. The only downside I can think of compared to the Z22 is that the Treo will occasionally hang for a second or two. It’s a fairly minor irritation.
As a phone, it is a huge improvement over the V557. It has a much much bigger screen, it has features such as a better speakerphone, and its ability to store contact info (numbers, names, etc.) is 1,000 times better than the V557. And (as with any Palm device) it syncs with my PC (and Outlook). Typing in contact names with a thumb keyboard is much easier than on a regular phone keypad.
The ability to web surf is great. Most web sites I am interested in are accessible and pretty readable on my Treo 680.
If your main concern is having a great portable email machine that continuously syncs with your work email, I would definitely take a look at a BlackBerry. I know a lot of people with BlackBerrys who are big fans.
But I’m happy with my Treo 680.
