BSA is coming out with a new Centennial Uniform for Boy Scouts and for adult leaders (including Cub Scout leaders) in mid-August. The new uniform shirt is still khaki, but the slacks are forest green rather than olive green. Boy Scouts will now wear forest green loops instead of red. The unit number and “trained” patches are forest green as are the new socks.
The new uniform is composed of high-tech fabrics.
Presumably, Webelos Scouts will have the option of wearing either this uniform or the blue Cub Scout uniform.
Details on the new uniform are available at bsauniforms.org.

My only major concern about the new uniform is the bellows-style pockets. I suppose now we will have to “hand-sew” the patches on or the pockets won’t be of any use whatsoever. Kind of a waste, if you ask me. Of course, the shirt pockets on the old-style uniform were no good either for the boys, since we sewed the patches through them as well, but…..maybe a velcro patch might have been a nice addition.
I have heard that the purpose of the sleeve pocket is to have an accessible pocket during Boy Scout hikes when the backpack shoulder straps cover up the front pockets.
I haven’t seen anything official on that though.
