At the BSA Innovation Engine website is an announcement about a new pilot Cub Scout health and wellness program called “Switch.” The program encourages kids to spend less time in front of a television or computer, to get more exercise, and to eat more fruits and vegetables.
Developed by the Northern Star Council in conjunction with the National Institute on Media and the Family, the initial pilot program is for third, fourth, and fifth grade boys and uses Switch materials developed by NIMF.
The initial pilot phase runs from January 2009 to May 2009 with 100 participants. It is scheduled to expand to a larger group in fall 2009 and later to the entire Northern Star Council with a curriculum tied to Cub Scout advancement.
