According to one of our comment posters, the 2009-2010 Roundtable Planning Guide has this announcement about the end of monthly themes:
“New for 2010-2011: Beginning in September 2010 and the 2010-2011 program year, the method of presenting Cub Scout den and pack meetings will undergo exciting enhancements with big benefits for boys, den leaders, and pack leaders. With these enhancements, monthly themes will no longer be used.” [Bold added]
I might be upset if this were true, but from everything I have read monthly themes will continue. Rather than having the theme be arbitrarily decided on and have nothing to do with advancement, the BSA will be using Cub Scouting’s 12 core values as their monthly themes.
