It is important that Cub Scouts be aware of and follow the Buddy System during outdoor scouting activities (including at camp or hiking).
Each Cub Scout should have a “buddy” with him who is aware of his circumstances at all times.

It’s not a good idea to be leading your den or pack on a hike and get lost. Or come upon a hazard or barrier which you were not aware of.
The best way to prevent this is not to take your Cub Scouts on a trail that you have not already hiked yourself. It is a good idea to already be familiar with the trail so that you won’t get lost, you can assure the families who are with you that you know where you are going, and you can avoid or minimize the danger associated with any hazards.

Because of some recent concerns about the safety of plastic water bottles made from bisphenol A (BPA), Nalge Nunc International (Nalgene) has announced that it is transitioning to bottles made of different materials. However, Nalgene states that this is not a product recall, and it contends that the polycarbonate bottles made from BPA are safe.
