Happy Birthday B.S.A. – Official Theme Description

The February 2010 Cub Scout Monthly Theme is Happy Birthday, B.S.A.

Here is the official BSA theme description:

“It’s time to celebrate with a big birthday bash. Boy Scouts of America is 100 years old this year.

Learn the history of how Scouting came to the United States. Find out about those who have given us this great Scouting legacy such as Daniel Carter Beard, James E. West, Ernest Thompson Seton, Waite Phillips, and W. D. Boyce.

Let’s play birthday games, make party decorations, and have birthday cake for our blue and gold banquet.”  [Bold added]

BSA Roses Parade Float

BSA will have a float in the Tournament of Roses Parade on January 1, 2010.  As you can see from this photo, the float will commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Scouting.

Dec. 10 Audiocast Anniversary Rally

On Thursday, December 10, 2009, 8:00 p.m. (Eastern Time), you can listen to a live audiocast of the National 100th Anniversary Kick-Off Rally.

It is anticipated that 250,000 volunteers, staff members, Scouting alumni, and parents will be listening in.

BSA 2010 Anniversary Stamp

BSA National and the U.S. Postal Service have announced a commemorative stamp for the 100th anniversary of Scouting. The new stamp should be available in July 2010.

In conjunction with the new stamp, a campaign has been announced to encourage Americans to send letters and care packages to members of the U.S. Armed Forces and veterans.

Scout Centennial “Year of Celebration” Patch

Tony Hooker is a KISMIF.org guest blogger from Concord, North Carolina.  He is a Wolf Den Leader in the Central North Carolina Council and is a first-year Cub Scouter.

A new patch is available from BSA National, celebrating the 100 year anniversary of Scouting. The “Year of Celebration” patch is a temporary patch, worn hanging on the right pocket of the uniform.

There are 5 ribbons that can be earned to accompany this patch in each of the following areas: Leadership, Achievement, Community Service, Character, and Outdoors.

This patch and the associated ribbons can only be earned from September 1, 2009 to December 31, 2010.

All levels of Scouting (Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venturers, and even adult leaders and alumni) can earn this patch.  There are different age appropriate requirements for each level.
