Centennial History Book

“Boy Scouts of America: A Centennial History Book” is available for preorder from BSA Supply Group.  The 300-page limited edition book covers the entire history of the BSA from its origins in the U.K. through the Depression, both World Wars, and into the present day.

The book features removable replicas of a number of rare BSA collectibles including the original Pinewood Derby rulebook and a letter to the Scouts from President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Included with the book is a DVD that contains both archival and contemporary BSA footage. The limited edition book can be preordered for $299.99 plus shipping.

Cub Scouting Highlights

Cub Scouting Highlights is a brochure (also available online) for Cub Scout leaders from BSA National. It provides an overview of many aspects of the Cub Scout program and describes available support literature.

Topics covered include: Cub Scouting Recruiting, Leadership Training, and Outdoor Program Highlights.

2008-2009 Program Helps

I picked up a copy of the 2008-2009 Cub Scout Program Helps at my local scout shop this week. It is still not listed on the national website yet, but it should be soon.

Program Helps contains a month-by-month breakdown of suggestions for den (Tiger, Wolf, or Bear) and pack games, songs, advancement ceremonies, crafts, and other activities to go along with the Cub Scout Monthly Themes.

If it hasn’t arrived at your local scout shop yet, it probably will be there soon.

Cub Scouting 101: Cub Scout Leader Book

The BSA Cub Scout Leader Book is the official guide for Cub Scout packs on how to run a Cub Scout program. It describes in detail the role of each leader in the pack, what his or her duties and responsibilities are, and how each part of a Cub Scout pack should function.

Every Cub Scout leader should either own a copy or have one that can be easily borrowed.

2008-2009 Program Helps Possibly Available

According to some discussion on Cub Scout Talk, the 2008-2009 Cub Scout Program Helps is already available for purchase at some local scout shops.

As of now, it is not yet available via scoutstuff.org or at my Council (Westark Area) scout shop. Stay tuned.

Cub Scout Book Covers

Something that’s cool with the covers of the Cub Scout handbooks is that if you put them all together, they form one large image. There is a path that starts at Tiger Cubs, goes into Wolf and Bear, and then exits from Webelos into Boy Scouts.

The background artwork is rather “cartoonish” at the Tiger Cub level, but it gets gradually more realistic at each later stage.

Pretty cool.

Coil-Bound Cub Scout Handbooks

All the Cub Scout handbooks are now available in both paperback and coil-bound formats. The coil-bound books are $12.99 each which is about $6 more than the standard version.

It is very nice to have this option available as the coil-bound versions are much easier for Cub Scout leaders to use.

The May 2008 (“Leaf It to Cubs“) Den Meeting in a Box is now available from BSA National (photo not available yet) for Tiger, Wolf, or Bear den meetings. It runs $37.49 and includes ten monthly theme booklets, ten Cub leaf charts, and ten monthly theme patches.
