If you purchased a new Centennial Uniform adult leader shirt and it seemed too short, you are not alone.

The following was posted on the Innovation Engine website by Erin Feola, BSA Production Manager for Apparel:

“The original production shirts were short and we adjusted the length by adding 3 inches to the center back length of the shirt.

We are working through mixed inventory but all future garments will be the longer length.” [Bold added]

Cub Scouter Uniform Answers

A number of Cub Scout leaders have been confused since the introduction of the Centennial Uniform in late 2008. Here are some answers to common questions about the new uniform.

The sources I am using are the 2008 Uniform Guide (from BSA Supply Group), the 2008 uniform inspection sheets, and the May 2008 New Centennial Uniform brochure (70-134).

(You should note that I don’t have definitive answers regarding the female adult leader yellow blouse uniform.)

Is it okay to mix and match parts of the new uniform with the previous uniform?
Yes.  The May 2008 New Centennial Uniform brochure states clearly:  “However, each piece transitions to mix and match with your current uniform.”

What color numerals do Webelos Scouts wearing the tan uniform use?
Forest green. This is shown clearly in the photos of the 2008 Uniform Guide which also states “Webelos Scouts have the option of wearing the forest green and khaki uniform or the blue uniform.”

What color numerals do Cub Scout adult leaders wear?
Forest green. This is shown in the 2008 Uniform Guide photos (such as the one above). However, female adult leaders wearing the yellow blouse probably still wear the red numerals.

Who still wears the red uniform numerals?
Tiger Cubs, Cub Scouts, Webelos Scouts if wearing the blue uniform, Venturers, Venturer adult leaders, and probably female adult leaders wearing the yellow blouse.

Who wears the new forest green loops?
Boy Scouts and adult leaders of Boy Scouts. Cub Scout adult leaders and Webelos Scouts in the khaki uniform still wear blue loops as before.

What hat does a Cub Scout adult leader wear?
According to the 2008 Adult Leader Uniform Inspection Sheet, den leaders wear the same cap as the boys in the den. Pack leaders wear the olive visor cap.

Centennial Uniform Mix and Match

August 17, 2008 5:20 am

If you’re like me and you think the new Centennial Uniform looks pretty cool but you aren’t sure you want to spend the money for a whole new uniform right now, remember, you don’t have to buy all the uniform pieces at once. It’s okay to “mix and match” pieces of the Centennial Uniform with your current uniform.

The Dallas Morning News has a July 7, 2008 article on the new Centennial Uniform coming out in August 2008 (for Boy Scouts, adult Scouters, and Webelos Scouts).

The article says BSA National hopes that the subdued look and versatile materials will encourage more scouts to wear the full uniform including pants.

The new uniform should be available August 15, 2008.

More Centennial Uniform Photos

June 5, 2008 5:11 am

Here are two more photos of the new Centennial Uniform.

And here is the official text describing the uniform changes:

“The uniform cap is still the great cotton twill classic, now it’s gone from green and red to forest green and is embroidered with a tonal universal emblem on the crown.

Bellows pockets with hook-and-loop closures have replaced the button-flap patch pockets. There are two pockets on the chest and a smaller one on the left sleeve.

Shoulder loops and unit numbers [] have undergone a color change—shoulder loops went from red to a rich shade of forest green. Unit numbers are khaki and forest green.

Long sleeves on the shirt have inside Swiss tabs and outside loops so they will stay neatly in place when rolled up.

The uniform belt got updated, too. It’s a bit wider and a lot beefier in forest green cotton web. It has a three dimensional universal emblem on the steel gray metal buckle and a sturdy, ratchet claw closure.

The Switchback™ Pants & Canvas Convertibles are now in forest green in universal sizes with unfinished hems for a custom-length fit. Available in two great fits: Classic (traditional straight leg) and Relaxed (roomier through the seat and thigh). Both have legs that zip off above the knee.

Uniform socks in various styles with your comfort in mind. These new high performance socks feature arch support and moisture wicking capabilities.” [bold added]

New Centennial Uniform

June 4, 2008 12:08 pm

BSA is coming out with a new Centennial Uniform for Boy Scouts and for adult leaders (including Cub Scout leaders) in mid-August. The new uniform shirt is still khaki, but the slacks are forest green rather than olive green. Boy Scouts will now wear forest green loops instead of red. The unit number and “trained” patches are forest green as are the new socks.

The new uniform is composed of high-tech fabrics.

Presumably, Webelos Scouts will have the option of wearing either this uniform or the blue Cub Scout uniform.

Details on the new uniform are available at bsauniforms.org.
