A Camping We Will Go – Official Theme Description

The June 2009 Cub Scout Monthly Theme is A Camping We Will Go.”

Here is the official BSA theme description:

“This month Cub Scouts go camping! Have a backyard campout with your family. Pitch a tent or sleep out under the stars! Conduct a pack campout at a nearby Scout camp, state park, or even the local museum.

An outdoor pack meeting might include a nature observation hunt, followed by an evening around the “campfire”. Attend your council’s Cub Scout or Webelos Scout resident camp as a den or pack or the council’s family camp with your whole family. Camping doesn’t always mean overnight; day camp is always lots of fun.

Get those boys outdoors and let them discover the fun of camping while working on their Cub Scout Outdoor Activity Award. Whatever you do, do it outside and find out what the outing in Scouting is all about.

While out on the trail, you can work on the Map and Compass belt loop and pin or the Astronomy belt loop and pin.” [bold added]

BALOO Training

August 25, 2008 5:12 am

When your pack has an overnight campout, at least one of the leaders in charge must have completed Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) training (No. 34162).

BALOO training includes an introduction to outdoor camping skills as well as important BSA rules and policies to be followed on any Cub Scout campout.

Contact your local council office to find out when the next BALOO training will be held in your area.

S’mores

June 24, 2008 5:13 am

A s’more is a tasty combination of graham crackers, milk chocolate, and melted marshmallow. S’mores are a popular treat at Cub Scout campouts.

Basically, you just melt a marshmallow, then put it between two graham crackers with part of a milk chocolate bar.

You can get more information on making s’mores at the WikiHow link below.
