Patches can be a fun way to reward Cub Scout attendance and participation. If your Pack or den will be doing Arbor Day activities, here is a patch available from Advantage Emblem.
They are $2.00 each (discounts for quantity) plus shipping. (Theme: “Leaf It to Cubs“).

DLTK’s Crafts for Kids website has instructions on doing this simple fingerprint apple or cherry tree craft. It would probably be a fun project for Tiger or Wolf “Leaf It to Cubs” den meetings.

Arbor Day is an annual holiday that encourages planting and caring for trees. It is recognized in the U.S. on the last Friday of April which this year falls on April 25, 2008. Many states also have state Arbor Day holidays.
Having an Arbor Day tree-planting event with your Pack can dovetail nicely with May’s Cub Scout monthly theme of “Leaf It To Cubs“. Planting trees is a great way to encourage your boys to get out in, learn more about, and appreciate the great outdoors. It can also help them earn the World Conservation Award, the Cub Scout Outdoor Activity Award, or the Webelos Forester activity badge.
You can find out more about Arbor Day at the Arbor Day Foundation website.

If you’re looking for an inexpensive easy-to-read guide to U.S. trees while planning your “Leaf It to Cubs” activities, the Golden Guide Trees book is a good one. This small 160-page full-color book is an easy-to-carry introduction to the most commonly found trees in North America.
It is available for $6.95 plus shipping from Amazon.com.

The Arbor Day Foundation website has a lot of educational tree activities which would be fun for your Bears or Webelos. The free downloadable activities include “The Tree Chain Game” (how trees grow) and “Mystery Tree Challenge” (tree identification). (Theme: Leaf It to Cubs).

The Arbor Day Foundation website has a nice Tree Identification Guide to help with identification of common U.S. trees. It also includes an interactive animation to help you brush up on your tree identification skills. (Theme: “Leaf It to Cubs“)
